A new study by The Green Insurer has revealed that a lack of available replacement parts is leading to significant delays in car repairs. Many motorists are waiting weeks or even months for their cars to be returned from garages.
The study found that 31% of motorists experienced delays due to parts shortages, with 49% waiting over a week and 15% waiting more than a month.
Green parts, recycled or refurbished auto parts, can offer a solution to these delays. These parts are sourced from salvaged vehicles and undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet quality standards. Despite being second-hand, they have the same guaranteed lifespan and performance as new parts.
The study found that 64% of motorists were unaware of green parts, and 78% would be open to using them for repairs. Green parts can help reduce the strain on the supply chain, lower costs for drivers, and shorten repair times.
Paul Baxter, CEO of The Green Insurer, emphasises the importance of using green parts whenever possible. He believes this approach aligns with a “repair over replace” ethos and supports environmental sustainability.
The Green Insurer is committed to promoting green parts and has partnered with various companies to offer rewards and discounts to policyholders. They plan to expand their network of partners and insurance offerings in the future.
By using green parts, drivers can contribute to a more sustainable automotive industry and potentially reduce the time their cars are out of commission.
