Halfords likely to hike prices due to rising costs

Halfords has warned that it may need to increase prices at its Autocentres to offset the impact of rising costs, particularly due to the government’s recent Budget.

The company highlighted that the increase in national insurance contributions and minimum wage would significantly impact its wage bill, adding an estimated £23 million to its costs. While Halfords expects to pass on some of these costs to customers in its Autocentres business, the impact on its retail operations is less certain, given the competitive nature of the market and the discretionary nature of many of its products.

The company also expressed concerns about the potential impact of the Budget on consumer spending and cautioned about an “uncertain” trading outlook. Halfords is calling on the government to consider reforms to the Apprenticeship Levy to help businesses mitigate rising costs and support workforce development.

Despite these challenges, Halfords remains committed to its growth strategy and is investing in its Autocentres business through the rollout of its new Fusion Motoring Services concept.

  2. All the high advertising budget, basic-skill, convenience outfits should definitely raise their prices !
That way they can maybe afford to buy all the tools and upskill their mechanics to be able to become the ‘Garage’ they may imagine they are (and that the public often perceives them to be).
Maybe then they can fix all the broken bolts, sheared studs & stripped threads that they all cause and even be able to do some proper diagnostics rather than just a code read and clear then join the ‘rev and stare club’ for a bit before saying it needs a specialist (someone that can trace and solder a broken wire instead of just fit a new sensor only and then put their parachute on when the going gets tough, albeit still collecting their £30 quid or whatever).
Additionally, some day they may even do a proper four wheeler alignment with camber and castor instead of the more profitable and quick ‘toe and go’ then leave the rest of us to pick up all the pieces when some real engineering and skill is required.
    Just saying…
