Richard Glover crowned National Paint Champion at Automechanika Birmingham 2025

Automechanika Birmingham 2025 celebrated the winners of its National Paint Championships, held from 3 – 5 June. Finalists competed to earn the ‘National Paint Champion’ title through a challenging car bonnet design competition.

Contestants were required to create an innovative car bonnet design based on the theme of ‘nature’. They had 50 hours to demonstrate classic paint techniques, creative ability, and unique ideas.

The top honours were awarded to:

  • First Place: Richard Glover from Suffolk New College.
  • Second Place: Madeleine Roche from Dick Lovett Body.
  • Third Place: Gavin Murphy from Creative Soul Custom and Classics.

The judging panel, which included Simon Wait (Bodyshop Magazine), Michael Massey (FMG RS), Craig Bourke (The Specky Painter), and Tom Evans (Paint Sprayer Professional), faced a difficult decision due to the high standard of entries. Richard Glover’s design ultimately secured him the championship, a £1,000 prize, and an invitation to Automechanika Frankfurt in 2026 to compete for the World Champion title.

Madeleine Roche received £500 as runner-up, and Gavin Murphy was awarded £250 for his entry. Dean Baldock from Smart-Tech Vehicle Body Repair won the public vote for his design.

Glover expressed his pride and thanked the judges and fellow contestants, adding, “Bring on Frankfurt!”
