Storm Rogers-Davies, a student from Derby, has launched her own car servicing business, Platinum Garage, after a significant career change.

Her journey began when the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted her horse care studies in 2020. This led her to work on the assembly line at the Toyota factory in South Derbyshire, reigniting a passion for cars initially sparked by her late father, Simon, who passed away in 2022.

The 24-year-old, now operating her business from home, reflected on her transformation: “When an engine light comes up on my car, I now know what I’m doing, compared to five years ago when I knew nothing.” She recalled watching her father work on cars, particularly his Renault 5 Turbo, finding the mechanical process akin to a jigsaw puzzle.

After leaving Toyota, Storm enrolled in a Level Two Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course at Derby College. Upon completing the next level of her studies, she established Platinum Garage. Her new skills proved useful when she assisted her uncle with a puncture on the A38.

Storm believes her father would be both surprised and proud of her career path. “I feel like my future is much much clearer now compared to when I left school,” she added. Paul Eatherington, Storm’s college tutor, commended her passion for cars and noted that changing careers for something enjoyable often leads to no regrets.
