Comline has issued a new technical bulletin to address a common installation issue with brake discs that feature integrated ABS rings, particularly on Citroën and Peugeot models. Technicians have reported problems with ABS sensor alignment, which is often caused by corrosion.
According to Comline, corrosion around the ABS sensor mounting point can push the sensor out of its correct position. When a new brake disc is then fitted, this corrosion reduces the required “air gap” between the sensor and the ABS ring, causing them to make contact. The symptoms of this issue include the ABS warning light illuminating immediately after disc installation and potential damage to the new ABS ring.
To ensure a correct installation and prevent damage or returns, Comline recommends the following steps:
- Remove the ABS sensor.
- Clean any corrosion from the sensor mounting point or guide tube.
- Inspect the sensor and replace it if it is damaged.
- Install the new brake disc, verifying that the correct air gap is maintained between the sensor and the ABS ring.
- Test the ABS system to confirm correct operation.
