Rotherham mechanic sentenced after driving off in customer’s Land Rover

A mechanic from Rawmarsh, Rotherham, has been sentenced after he was caught driving a customer’s Land Rover that was left at his garage for repairs. Richard Pollard, aged 34, was spotted on Herringthorpe Road by a South Yorkshire Police officer on 26 July 2025.

The officer’s suspicions were raised, and upon stopping Pollard, it was quickly discovered that he was driving without a licence or insurance. Further inquiries with the registered keeper of the vehicle confirmed that Pollard, who was supposed to be carrying out repair work, had driven off in the vehicle without permission. The owner had attempted to contact Pollard multiple times without success.

Pollard has since appeared in court in connection with the incident.
