More than £300,000 worth of stolen vehicles were found inside a “sophisticated chop shop” in Madingley, Cambridgeshire, police have confirmed.
The discovery, which included a Porsche Taycan, a Range Rover, and several BMWs, was made inside an industrial unit on St Neots Road on Monday. Officers said the vehicles had been stolen from locations across London, Scotland, and Essex.
The investigation began after police were called at approximately 03:00 BST on Monday by the owner of a BMW, who had tracked his stolen vehicle from London to an area near a farm in Madingley.
Cambridgeshire’s rural crime action team used enhanced tracking systems to bypass professional jamming devices that were found inside the unit. These devices had been used by the criminals to block the tracking signals of the stolen cars.
Officers traced the BMW to the industrial unit where they subsequently discovered it and nine other stolen vehicles.
Sgt Tom Nuttall, from the rural crime action team, said: “This was clearly a highly organised, sophisticated operation, equipped with advanced technology to obstruct our efforts, and utilising a farm to hide their operation.”
He confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
