OSRAM, recently delivered their OSRAM Lighting Academy training session on automotive lighting to more than 80 motor vehicle engineering students at Leicester College.
Recognising students as a significant part of the future of the automotive aftermarket, OSRAM representatives, in conjunction with Mike Smallbone from Aftermarket Business Solutions, conducted two training sessions at the college. This initiative follows similar sessions held earlier this year at Warrington College and Swindon College.
During the training, students were educated on the aftermarket in general by Mike Smallbone, as well as bulb technologies, business opportunities related to upselling and fitting bulbs, and the importance of fitting premium quality products.
Lighting Marketing Manager, Terri Clark, who delivered the lectures, said: “We were pleased to see so many students actively engaging with our material. We saw a lot of passion and desire to learn at Leicester College and that’s encouraging, as we see a lot of conversation around the skills shortage in our industry and we wanted to assist in any way possible to keep these young people engaged.”
Clark stressed the importance of component quality: “We wanted to stress the importance of fitting premium quality and reputable components, as fitting a poor quality bulb may dazzle other drivers, fail prematurely and in some cases, be hazardous in the engine bay and cause damage to the headlight unit, so want them to learn this information at the start of their career, and hopefully carry it through.”
The session concluded with a ‘heads or tails’ quiz, offering students a chance to win OSRAM branded goodies.
