Boston exhaust gas analysers and diesel smoke meters have officially been certified by the DVSA as ‘connected MOT equipment’. In addition to its range

Peter MilesGuestHow do Boston have their emissions tester approved when the rules are not to be released until early 2020? Unless I’ve misunderstood it looks awfully like the market for new test equipment has just been presented to Boston. I bought a new Bosch combined gas & smoke tester when the new plate limit regulations came out and I’m told that Bosch are currently unable to confirm whether it will be “connectable” as they don’t know the criteria yet.
Motbay South ReadingGuestSounds like a very expensive upgrade for mot stations which are feeling under valued with regards to the DVSA price structure of £54.85.That’s not even covering the hourly rate of most garages.
Mike Ruff, GW editorKeymasterHi Peter,
As we understand it, the DVSA is currently working with manufacturers such as Boston to develop diesel smoke meters, exhaust gas analysers and decelerometers that connect to the MOT testing service. The rule for new connected roller brake testers came into force from 1 October and the DVSA has suggested that rule will be extended to include connected emission gas analysers, diesel smoke meters, decelerometers and headlamp beam testers by early 2020 following on from successful trials.
Boston has now announced that its exhaust gas analysers and diesel smoke meters have been certified by the DVSA as ‘connected MOT equipment’, ahead of the new rule being applied by the DVSA next year.
Hope that helps?
Thanks, Mike.
