A garage in Watford became the centre of a security alert after a “suspicious device” was found inside a motorbike. Police were called to Dad’s Garage by Paulo, located between Vicarage Road and The Hornets, at 8.40am Saturday 20.
Officers set up a 100m cordon and evacuated nearby homes and businesses as a precaution. A bomb disposal unit arrived about an hour later.
Inspector Scott Curren said at the time: “Officers attended and set up a cordon, evacuating nearby homes and businesses. Other emergency services are attending as a precaution and a specialist unit from the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) is on scene. We ask people to avoid the area at this time.”
At around 1 pm, a controlled detonation was carried out in King George V Playing Field, behind a police cordon.
Caren Duhig, who was evacuated from her home, told the Watford Observer: “We’re terrified, just terrified and dumbfounded on a Saturday morning to all be evacuated.” She described the experience as “really, really scary.”
Another resident, Adam Tungatt, said he was told by police that a “suspicious package” had been found and that a “third party” was on its way to deal with it.
