Firefighters from Ashburton Fire Station faced an unusual rescue operation on 30 May in the Avonwick area of Devon, after a car collided with a motorcycle before crashing into a commercial garage. The vehicle subsequently became wedged between a car lift and a wall inside the premises.
Fortunately, the motorcyclist involved in the initial collision was unharmed. The driver of the car sustained only minor cuts and was reported by a station spokesperson to be “in good spirits whilst being checked over by the ambulance service.”
Ashburton crews had to remove the car doors and some building furniture to safely extricate the driver. The station also extended thanks to the garage occupiers for their assistance during the incident. This unique crash highlights the unexpected challenges emergency services can encounter.
