LKQ Euro Car Parts helps garages get air con ready

As garages gear up for summer's air conditioning servicing demands, here are some top tips from the LKQ Academy

LKQ Euro Car Parts helps garages get air con ready

Bob Wiffen, workshop solutions director at LKQ Euro Car Parts, advises technicians to service their machines properly, ensuring correct calibration and safe, high standards of work.

Wiffen recommends changing the machine’s filter and checking for leaks during servicing to ensure the refrigerant meets the S.A.E standard and prevents loss to the atmosphere. He also advises recalibrating the machine’s charging accuracy for optimal performance of customers’ air-con systems.

Technicians must be F-Gas certified to handle and correctly dispose of the refrigerant R134a, or ‘old gas’. LKQ Euro Car Parts now only sells ‘old gas’ to customers who can prove their F-Gas qualification details.

With the rise in electric and hybrid vehicles, technicians also need relevant training and equipment to handle these air conditioning systems. The LKQ Academy’s level 2 and 3 award in hybrid electric vehicle routine maintenance activities, system repair and replacement equip technicians with the necessary skills to safely service these systems.

LKQ Euro Car Parts is offering air-con bundle deals in May, starting at £3,699* (excl. VAT), including a nitrogen test kit, leak detector, gas, and a choice of machine.

Air con courses run via the LKQ Academy are also available:

•The ‘L3 Refrigerant Handling VRQ (F-Gas)’ course is available from £250 (excl. VAT) per candidate.

•The Level 2 & 3 IMI Award in Electric/Hybrid starting at £549 (excl. VAT) per candidate.

•Cooling and Climate Systems – Understanding Vehicle Air Condition course for £199 (excl. VAT) per candidate.
