NBRA, Ageas UK and LKQ launch Apprentice Breakfast Club

The National Bodyshop Repair Association (NBRA), in partnership with Ageas UK and LKQ, has launched the first-ever Apprentice Breakfast Club at the LKQ Academy in Tamworth. The initiative is part of a new series designed to bring the automotive repair industry together to address the skills shortage and inspire businesses to embrace apprenticeships.

The inaugural event convened a mix of bodyshops, training providers, colleges, and the industry charity AutoRaise. The discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities within the apprenticeship landscape, with attendees hearing from apprentices and exploring topics such as funding and employer hesitations. The event was particularly successful in engaging repairers who had not previously considered taking on apprentices.

Following the club, LKQ has committed to hosting a free ‘Sustainability Day’ course for up to eight apprentices hired by repairers who attended.

Martyn Rowley, Executive Director of the NBRA, stated that the goal was to encourage repairers to support a young person into the trade. He reported that five repairers expressed a genuine interest in hiring apprentices, with three already committing to new hires. Other attendees also pledged to offer work experience placements to students.

Jodie Mullard, Channel & Technical Director at LKQ, highlighted the value that apprentices bring to teams and the wider industry. She expressed thanks to the repairers who attended and contributed to the “positive and proactive morning.”
