In anticipation of the clocks going back on Sunday 26 October, leading automotive lighting specialist, OSRAM, has launched Bulb Check Week from 20 – 26 October after its success last year with the campaign.
With the clocks going back, the nights will begin earlier, meaning headlights will be used significantly more. OSRAM, which has been in the automotive industry for more than 110 years, has released top tips for factors and technicians to pass onto customers:
- Look for dimming, flickering, and any signs of wear and tear on bulbs.
- Use a reflection (like a shop window or garage door) or ask for help to check bulbs are functioning and balanced correctly.
- If a bulb has blown, replace it with a premium quality, ECE approved bulb. Non-approved brands may cause glare, fail prematurely, and potentially damage the headlight unit.
OSRAM also recommends changing both headlight bulbs when one fails, as the other is likely to fail soon after. Replacing in pairs ensures the car’s headlight beam functions equally. This also provides an upselling opportunity for factors and workshops.
The company highlights three facts of light for the season:
- Check and Change – Offer a professional bulb check service and charge customers for it.
- Replace in Pairs – Since headlight bulbs degrade at the same rate, replacing both doubles the profit opportunity.
- Upgrade Customers Vision – Offer customers brighter, whiter light upgrades, such as the NIGHT BREAKER 220, to triple profit opportunities.
OSRAM advises that an additional charge should be made for a Fitting Service, as correct alignment is crucial and requires an expert to ensure light is directed exactly where needed.
