TMD Friction, a global manufacturer of brake friction solutions, has published its latest ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Report, detailing significant progress towards its Sustainability Roadmap 2040. The report shows the company achieved a 46% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions in 2024, relative to its 2021 baseline. This was accomplished through initiatives such as increased green energy use and improved operational efficiency.
The company has also surpassed a key environmental target well ahead of schedule, achieving a 31% reduction in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in its products. This exceeds its 2040 goal of a 20% reduction. The progress was driven by investments in new technologies and the development of a VOC-free adhesive.
In 2024, TMD Friction increased its use of green energy from suppliers to 52%, moving closer to its target of 100% renewable energy by 2030. Overall energy consumption was reduced by 3% through upgrades to equipment and better waste management.
The company’s employees are also actively involved in the sustainability journey through its Kaizen Programme. In 2024, employees led nine sustainability-focused projects that resulted in combined savings of over €631,000. One project introduced a new honeycomb packaging made from recycled paper, which will replace 19 types of foam.
The company is also working towards ambitious waste reduction targets, with a goal of 70% less landfill waste by 2040. In 2024, on-site recycling increased by 14%, and waste wood was donated to a company in Mexico that creates furniture from reclaimed materials.
