VARTA introduces lithium-ion battery range for leisure

VARTA, a brand of Clarios, has launched a new portfolio of lithium-ion batteries specifically designed for deep-cycle off-grid leisure applications like motorhomes and marine use. The company notes that these batteries provide a long-lasting and efficient power supply for a growing European leisure market.

The new range includes six types, with capacities from 50 Ah to 200 Ah across four sizes. According to the company, these batteries offer more usable energy and a longer cycle life while being lighter and smaller than conventional models. The batteries use class A lithium-ion cells for reliability and offer a weight saving of around 55% compared to a same-sized AGM lead-acid battery.

The new batteries can be fully recharged in just two to three hours and provide up to twice the usable capacity of conventional batteries, thanks to an 80% Depth of Discharge (DoD).

The batteries also offer smart monitoring features. A Bluetooth connection allows users to check battery status, cycles, temperature, and usage via a mobile phone app. Additionally, the 100 and 150 Ah models can connect to modern CI-BUS onboard management systems for full energy integration.

Designed for challenging conditions, the batteries include a heating function on the 100 and 150 Ah types for use in cold weather. All models, except the 50 Ah type, are rated IP67, making them resistant to dust, dirt, and temporary water immersion up to one metre. Special low-temperature versions with cell heating technology are also available.
