The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has published special notice 02-25 regarding MOT testing for certain Citroën C3 and DS3 models impacted by an urgent ‘stop drive’ airbag recall. This guidance applies to England, Scotland, and Wales.

The recall concerns a fault within the airbag system and affects:

  • Second-generation Citroën C3 models manufactured between 2009 and 2016
  • Citroën DS 3 models manufactured between 2009 and 2016
  • DS Automobiles DS 3 models manufactured between 2016 and 2019

To determine if a vehicle is affected, testers should check the Citroën website. This requires entering the vehicle identification number (VIN) and a code displayed on the site.

If a vehicle is identified as being affected by the recall, it can still undergo a standard MOT test. The DVSA states that the airbag fault would only pose an issue if the airbag were to deploy in an accident. Testers are instructed to issue a manual advisory on the MOT certificate with the following specific wording:

“This vehicle has an outstanding recall. Contact Citroën for information and to arrange a free repair.”

This guidance ensures that essential safety information is communicated to vehicle owners while allowing the MOT process to proceed as usual for these vehicles.

  1. My DS3 2014 has a do not drive notice issue by the DVSA due to the airbag fault and has been off the road for 3 months. My MOT is now due, will there be a 3 month extension added to my MOT due to the do not drive notice being in force?
