A County Durham garage owner has expressed frustration over disruption caused by roadworks near his business. Tony Richardson, owner of Pat Lavery Garage in Horden, says the works blocked access for several days, impacting customer traffic.
Initially, all three access routes to the garage were blocked, prompting concerns from Mr. Richardson. He worried about the impact on his business and his employees’ wages.
However, following discussions with Mr. Richardson, Durham County Council adjusted the work schedule. The remaining roadworks are now taking place during evening hours (6pm-12pm) to minimise disruption. Full access to the garage has been restored.
The council maintains it strives to minimise business disruption during roadworks. They point out that they informed residents and businesses two weeks in advance and had previously contacted the garage directly.
Mr. Richardson acknowledges the council’s efforts to find a solution but remains disappointed by the initial disruption. The roadworks are expected to be completed this weekend.

We had a similar road closure with no thought to us as a business. A full closure was planned for works which would take four days. After an email copied into all my local councillors, they changed their tack. They didn’t close the road and miraculously they completed the work in one day (saving the tax payer significantly I would guess)
