A used car dealership in Hornchurch, Essex, has been ordered to close after it was found to be operating without the necessary planning permission. The Moorings Garage, which also trades as TM UK Trading, has been served a planning enforcement notice by Havering Council.
The council’s notice describes the dealership as “inappropriate” and “harmful” to the green belt land on which it is located. It also states that the noise from the site is having an “adverse impact” on local residents.
As a result of the enforcement notice, the business must “cease the use of the site for storage and sales of vehicles, and as a car wash” by 6th January 2026. The notice also requires the removal of all vehicles, debris, and materials from the premises.
The Romford Recorder reports that the firm plans to appeal the council’s ruling. The Moorings Garage had a retrospective planning application rejected in August of last year and is currently in discussions with its landlord. Failure to vacate the site by the deadline could result in court action.
