A man from East Dunbartonshire, Darren Stack, 29, has pleaded guilty to housebreaking, theft, and dangerous driving after stealing a Nissan Juke and then attempting to have its flat tyre repaired while being sought by police.
On April 19, 2025, Stack stole the vehicle, a handbag, and a car key from a home in Bishopbriggs. After the theft was reported, police were able to recover the handbag and business cards, but the car remained missing.
Stack later took the Nissan Juke to a Kwik Fit garage in Glasgow, where he asked a mechanic to fix the flat tyre for cash. When told to leave the car, Stack drove away at high speed with the damaged tyre.
He then travelled to Giffnock train station, where he drove at excessive speed into a car park. Upon hitting a dead end, Stack reversed and struck a Mercedes Sprinter van, causing a scratch to the door. He offered the van’s owner cash to cover the repair.
Stack then drove away again at speed but eventually abandoned the vehicle. Police officers located him walking away from the car. A check revealed that Stack was a disqualified driver, and he was found to have been drinking.
Stack remains in custody, with sentencing deferred for background reports. Sheriff Barry Divers stated that a custodial sentence is being considered.

It happened to somebody I knew. He was working under the front of a Jaguar on his driveway. The sump came down on his face. His wife found him when she went to tell him his lunch was ready. Please guys, use axle stands and take every possible precaution before getting under a car.
