A mechanic, Liam Caine, appeared at Banff Sheriff Court for sentencing after admitting to stealing and then selling a Yamaha DT125 motorbike that did not belong to him.
The court heard that Caine, 30, had been repairing the bike for several years. His defence agent, Stuart Beveridge, explained that Caine became frustrated with the prolonged repair process, exacerbated by difficulty sourcing parts during lockdown, and eventually had a falling out with the bike’s owner.
Mr Beveridge stated that Caine “entirely accepts that he should not have sold the motorcycle,” but did so as a way to cover the expenses he had incurred during the repair work. He added that Caine, of Maxwell Street, Girvan, “does very much regret his actions here.”
Sheriff Robert McDonald noted that the case “might otherwise be regarded as a civil matter” but proceeded with a financial penalty. Caine was fined £520, which he is to pay at a rate of £50 per month.
