A Cambridgeshire garage specialising in fixing pothole-damaged cars has reported a significant increase in business over the past three years.
Ace Finish in Godmanchester has seen the number of cracked wheels quadruple, highlighting the deteriorating state of roads in the county.
Alan Piggott, owner of Ace Finish, expressed concern about the condition of Cambridgeshire’s roads, stating that the damage to customer cars is “truly shocking.” He emphasised that while the increase in business is beneficial, it should not be seen as a sustainable solution.
Cambridgeshire County Council provided statistics showing that an average of 57,325 potholes were fixed annually between 2019 and 2023. However, the number of claims against the council for pothole-related damage tripled from 600 in 2022 to 2,023 in 2023.
The council acknowledges the importance of well-maintained roads and states that they are investing an additional £43 million to improve and prevent potholes. They emphasise that each claim is assessed on a case-by-case basis to determine liability.
Ace Finish continues to meet the growing demand for pothole-related repairs, offering a valuable service to local drivers affected by the poor road conditions in Cambridgeshire.
