A vehicle fire that caused £3,000 worth of damage to a family’s home in Birmingham earlier this month now appears to be the result of an arson attack.

Miles Freeman and his fiancee Tanya Krupenko’s evacuated their three children without harm on 8 April before calling the emergency services when their Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid caught fire in Moseley, Birmingham on 8 April.

CCTV footage outside the family home shows a young man pouring liquid fuel across the bonnet and windscreen of the vehicle before lighting it and subsequently fleeing the area.

Freeman told BBC News he was “surprised” as he had not previously regarded the incident as suspicious.

West Midlands Police are now treating the fire as criminal damage.
