ZF Aftermarket equips independent workshops for driver assistance systems

ZF Aftermarket is enhancing its support for independent workshops by launching the ZF Smart Camera, a modern camera for driver assistance systems (ADAS) designed for the aftermarket. This initiative comes as EU regulations, effective July 2024, mandate systems like Automatic Emergency Brake Assist, Intelligent Speed Assist, and Lane Departure Warning in all new cars, all of which rely on camera sensors.

ZF is a significant global supplier of front cameras, producing over ten million units annually for 14 car manufacturers. The company anticipates that within the next decade, the majority of vehicles in Europe will be equipped with such cameras, presenting a substantial market opportunity for independent workshops prepared to handle ADAS.

Historically, replacing front cameras after incidents like accidents or glass damage required reliance on original car manufacturer parts, as no aftermarket alternatives were available. The ZF Smart Camera aims to address this by providing an aftermarket spare part, enabling independent workshops to carry out these repairs. This camera sensor, combining ZF’s hardware and software, is designed to meet car manufacturers’ specifications and maintain ADAS functionality at OEM levels.

The ZF Smart Camera will initially be available in ten versions, compatible with over 50 vehicle models, including many from the Stellantis Group (Citroën, DS, Peugeot, Opel) and Nissan. This range will be expanded in the coming months.

Beyond the product, ZF Aftermarket offers a complete ADAS ecosystem to support workshops. This includes necessary diagnostic and calibration equipment, such as ZF MultiScan diagnostic software and ZF’s calibration walls. Workshops can receive training on both through the ZF [pro]Tech workshop concept, enabling their employees to become ADAS experts.

Markus Wittig, Global Head of Business Line Passenger Car at ZF Aftermarket, stated that this expansion of their ADAS offering underscores their commitment to “Maximizing Uptime” and creating value for customers. He emphasised that by providing access to innovative products, intelligent tools, diagnostic solutions, and practical training, ZF aims to enable mobility professionals to adapt to industry changes, increasing productivity for their partners through a robust, holistic ecosystem.
