A new vehicle testing centre has been proposed for Derry, with a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) lodged with Derry City and Strabane District Council. The proposed Driver and Vehicle Testing Centre would be located at Campsie, a few miles outside the city.
Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy welcomed the development, stating it would enhance regional vehicle testing capacity, support road safety, create local employment opportunities, and contribute to improved public services and infrastructure.
In a statement, the Foyle MLA detailed the plans outlined in the PAN: “The PAN outlines plans for a new vehicle test centre, comprising a test centre building, a single-direction perimeter site road, lay-by parking, holding bay parking, an HGV pre-test lay-up area, an exit forecourt, a motorcycle off-road driving test track, staff parking facilities, and landscaping.”
Mr Delargy reiterated the benefits of the proposed development, emphasising its role in “enhancing regional vehicle testing capacity, supporting road safety, creating local employment opportunities, and contributing to improved public services and infrastructure.” This move signals a potential upgrade to vehicle testing facilities in the area, aiming to meet growing demand and uphold safety standards.
