GuestWhy not ban all tyres over 10yrsc on all vehicles, I’ve mot tested cars tyres with cracked walls obviously perished with age , but pass and advise , surely they’re just as dangerous especially the faster ones ?
Geoff
GuestAny tyres over five years-=thats the manufactures guarantee for faults should be changed . Also part worn tyres stopped , scrap yards selling tyres also . Change of mot law at the moment we are seeing because of lock down tyres cracking in tread and sidewall but not through to cords we have to pass and advise
Paul
GuestJust the fronts what’s stopping them being changed for the rears if the rear tyres are a younger age .?

GuestA customer brought in his own part worn tyre to be fitted I refused and explained the tyre was at least 22 years. He did want it put back on his car. Its a class 4 passenger vehicle and appears to be exempt from the 10 year ban?

GuestI have long thought tyres age should be part of the MOT. I have come across a vehicle with 40 year old tyres which had passed the MOT. It cannot be right to pass such lethal faults when other silly, less dangerous things would result in a fail. I know of a 22 year old tyre which blew out on the M42, fortunately it was fitted to the trailer. As advised by tyre manufacturers 10 years seems a sensible limit for the MOT.

GuestI had a blow out this morning on the M42 – When the rescue came they advised me that the tyre was 16 years old – I had just bought the car from a dealer two weeks ago! The tyre rescue advised that it was probably bought as a part warn. This shouldn’t have happened – I feel very lucky to have escaped a more negative outcome. I think a 10 year limit on all tyres on all vehicles should be mandatory.

GuestA ban on tires over 10 years old would impact MOT testing stations by enforcing stricter safety standards, potentially leading to more frequent tire replacements and increased inspections for compliance.
