Banner Batteries sales team treated to “enjoyable and symbolic” conference trip

Team Banner visited Plant Oxford, birthplace of the MINI production, after securing BMW OE contract

Banner Batteries sales team treated to “enjoyable and symbolic” conference trip
Since production of new MINI started in 2001, more than 2.5 million cars have been made at Plant Oxford.

Banner Batteries’ sales team enjoyed a sales conference with a difference recently, with country manager, Lee Quinney, organising it to coincide with a factory tour of Plant Oxford, the birthplace and heart of MINI production.

However it wasn’t purely a busman’s holiday, as Banner’s Batteries are now used to power hundreds of MINIs that leave the plant’s assembly line each day, manufactured to individual customer specifications from more that 110 countries worldwide.

The visit dovetailed with the start of a new original equipment contract Banner enjoys with the BMW Group, one that now sees the Austrian manufacturer supply its Running Bull EFB battery not only to Plant Oxford, but a total of four European locations.

Lee Quinney, country manager, commented: “It certainly made for a memorable conference, and the fact that we kept this a secret from the whole team made the event more enjoyable and symbolic.

“Not only did the team get a fascinating insight into the just-in-time production process that is applied to MINIs that are quite simply made to order, it is a plant that enjoys a heritage in excess of 100 years of automotive manufacturing history.

“Not surprisingly the visit certainly struck an accord with everyone, however the challenge moving forward is now going to be how can this be bettered,” he added.

Since production of new MINI started in 2001, more than 2.5 million cars have been made at Plant Oxford, which has become a landmark in the “city of dreaming spires”.

Today, three UK plants have had a part to play in MINI production; Plant Hams Hall making engines, Plant Swindon producing body pressings and sub-assemblies for MINI, all of which come together at Plant Oxford with body shell production, paint and final assembly.
