The RAW Motorsport Team poses with the Citroen C1 Endurance Car.

Choosing high quality components usually translates to gains on the circuit, so when a project car needed a replacement exhaust to compete in the BARC Citroen C1 Challenge, RAW Motorsport turned to Klarius.

The Citroen C1 Challenge differentiates itself from many championships in the fact that most of the cars are completely standard.

Weight reduction and suspension set-up aside, the regulations require components to be at least OE equivalents.

The championship takes the form of endurance racing, typically the most demanding format for drivers, vehicles and components.

Races are held around the UK, with the first round taking place at the iconic Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

Logical choice

As Klarius prides itself on providing type-approved and fit tested OE equivalent aftermarket emissions systems, they were the logical choice for RAW.

Robin Welsh, director at RAW Motorsport, explains: “We have a good existing relationship with Klarius, as the tech team there support our needs with regards to cars competing in the BMW Compact Cup.

“We also know Klarius makes an MX5 system for track use.

“The C1’s existing exhaust system had become old so we needed an OEM equivalent replacement catalytic converter and exhaust, thankfully, it was something Klarius could easily provide.”

Strict quality policy

Klarius Products has a strict quality policy, with the aim to produce components that preserve or improve the OEM performance and efficiency levels of the intended vehicle.

All components are designed to suit specific marques, models and production years; with fit testing carried out on-site to ensure seamless integration.

Furthermore, all applicable components are type-approved to EU legislative standards for guaranteed performance. Parts are independently tested to noise and emissions standards by the VCA.

Therefore, the new C1 exhaust would be accepted within the stringent series regulations.

“High quality”

Robin continues: “The replacement system fitted perfectly, which expedited installation.

“The CAT was also a high quality item, which was of great importance with regards to gas flow and staying within regulations.

“The car has completed two races with the new system, where it has performed without issue; needless to say, we are very pleased with the outcome.”

Doug Bentley, head of research and development at Klarius Products added: “We support road going vehicles with our extensive aftermarket product range and while we also have the capability to provide one-off custom systems (like a custom exhausts for a Mosler MT900R) we tend to work better on series that are based closely on standard road specifications.

“This C1 system was perfect for us as it had to be good quality, but effectively standard.

“Our focus on providing OEM quality for the road and a strict adherence to exacting design criteria paid-off and gave us a distinct advantage in supporting this application.”
