NGK helps football charity reach its goal

Ignition and sensor specialist NGK is sponsoring a charity that supplies football kits to young players in some of the World’s developing countries.

NGK donated a pristine past kit, which sported the logo of customer PITSTOP Autofactors of Mildenhall, and also donated £200 to KitAid which was formed in 1998 by Derrick Williams, MBE, who set up the charity following a trip to Tanzania when children asked if he could provide a proper football kit.

One box of kit from friends was sent to a village and the response was so good it was decided to continue KitAid with more than 870,000 items since being sent to projects across Africa, South America, Asia and Eastern Europe.

Derrick Williams, MBE, said: “We are very grateful for the tremendous support received from NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd and we would like to thank them for their donation of a full team kit as well as £200 to support our work.

“This will help us to achieve our target of donating one million items of kit across the developing world since 1998. Thank you NGK.”

All types of kit are welcome, not just from Premier League teams, as well as boots, rain jackets and even goal posts.

Stuart Bayne, national field sales manager for NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “We last wore the kit at a football competition hosted by West Ham United and it is currently on its way to Tanzania by sea.

“Football is the World’s most popular sport and we are delighted to help what is a fantastic charity that helps youngsters around the World enjoy their favourite pastime and hopefully helps fulfil their dreams.”
