A new whitepaper from Deb, a brand of SC Johnson Professional along with Swarfega, has concluded the prevention is better than the cure, making a good skincare regime vital.

The report features leading industry experts and workers who have been affected by occupational skin disorders (OSDs).

The use of appropriate pre and after-work hand creams can have a significant impact on the prevention of OSDs – citing the ‘three-moments of skincare’ approach.

A Swarfega spokesperson said: “Before work skin protection creams, such as Swarfega Protect help provide a layer which protects the skin.

“In the workshop environment, daily exposure to contaminants is a major factor in the development of OSDs, and so protection before getting to work is vital.

“During work, hands should be washed after contact with substances such as grease, solvents and adhesives.

“Choosing the right hand cleaner is important, as harsh cleaners can exacerbate skin disorders.

“After work, restorative products are important, as they condition and strengthen the skin.

“In colder winter months, restoration creams should be your best friend, as the skin is more prone to becoming dry and sore. Swarfega recommend their Restore cream to maintain healthy skin.”

The ‘three moments of skincare’ approach aims to change attitudes towards skincare in the workplace.

Industry culture often means that workers tend to see OSDs as par for the course, but with the right products and practices, Swarfega hopes that this will become a thing of the past.
