Experienced long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow will drive from Dakar to Moscow in a VW Amarok, equipped with copper-free Textar brake pads especially for the world record attempt.

Commencing from the Senegalese capital, the trip sees the team pass through four time zones and meet a number of obstacles on their journey such as bumpy dirt roads, potholes, border crossings and even camels and donkeys.

TMD Friction developed a friction material specifically for the marathon trip, complete with a customised stamp, to ensure performance and endurance.

Stephan Giesecke, head of regional marketing at TMD Friction, said: “This was not an everyday task for our developers.

“However, our team has mastered this challenge with flying colours, especially considering the tight timeframe.

“We are delighted to be supporting Rainer Zietlow and his team in this exciting project.

“We are pleased to be involved in an endurance test such as this, as long service life is another key strength of our material alongside safety and comfort.”
