The investment into Autino – the Reading-based business which is the parent company behind the CarVue garage management system – is part of Castrol’s long-term digital strategy.
“Today’s consumer expects world-class experiences when it comes to the servicing, maintenance and repair of their cars,” says Jonathan Tudor, ventures director at Castrol.
“Helping serve these discerning consumers more efficiently is an important part of Castrol’s future and we are delighted to make the additional investment in Autino to drive this strategy forward.”
These demanding consumers expect higher levels of convenience, transparency and communication which the car repair industry is failing to deliver according to Geoffrey Finlay, chairman of Autino.
“When you order your pizza online, you can schedule a time to suit you, you can add in extras, you can even track its delivery to your door.
“Yet when you try to get your car serviced or repaired, you often have to call the garage to find out their availability, pricing isn’t clear and you have no idea when it’s available for collection.
“That’s not the kind of experience a consumer expects in today’s digital world”
It is this digital transformation that is the fundamental reason for the additional investment explained Des Johnson, Castrol’s global marketing director – digital.
“The automotive market is going through massive change. The constant factor however is that vehicles will still need servicing and repair and consumers are demanding a high-quality experience.
“We believe Autino can provide a very important part of that solution for the future.”
