AA to train all patrols to at least an IMI Level 2 electric/hybrid vehicle certification by end of 2022

AA partners with Autotech Training to increase IMI EV training capacity

Autotech Training is to support the AA as it works towards its objective to equip its entire fleet of patrols with IMI accredited industry leading electric vehicle training.

Achieving IMI Centre approval for the delivery of IMI Level 2 electric/hybrid vehicle training at its own technical training facility in the West Midlands, the AA required additional support to train patrols working in areas with a high density of EVs to IMI Level 3 electric/hybrid vehicle accreditation.

Certified to deliver IMI Levels 2-4 electric/hybrid vehicle training, Autotech Training, working with both the AA and the IMI, is now working towards training over 100 AA patrols to IMI Level 3.

The courses are being carried out within either Autotech Training’s dedicated EV training facility in Milton Keynes, of from the AA’s own training centre.

Colin Gleghorn, managing director of Autotech Training said: “The number of EVs on the road is rising and it is essential that patrols have the EV skill set to carry out any repair work safely.”

While all AA patrols are already trained to IMI Level 1 equivalent, they will be IMI TechSafeTM registered when they gain Level 2 accreditation.

The IMI TechSafeTM Standards for those working on electric vehicles are set by the IMI and endorsed by the Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

Autotech Group’s CEO, Gavin White, is part of the TechSafe Sector Advisory Group to help drive forward the Electrified Vehicle Professional Standard.

Nicholas Foxall, The AA’s road training manager said: “Working with Autotech Training has enabled us to increase training capacity for our patrols and ensure that they are receiving industry leading development in electric vehicles.

“Combining our own bespoke training alongside Autotech Training’s electric vehicle training courses, and their team of highly skilled and experienced trainers, ensures that we can better prepare our patrols for ever-changing technologies.”
