An impressive win in Melbourne saw the Lucas Oil-sponsored DAMS team surge to the top of the F2 leaderboard after three rounds of the 2023 season.
Ayumu Iwasa secured a second successive Feature Race victory and now leads the overall Drivers’ Championship. Teammate Arthur Leclerc finished third and also added extra points by finishing fourth in the shorter Sprint Race.
Lucas Oil UK sales and operations director, Dan Morgan, said: “What an amazing start to the season. The cars are running brilliantly, while the drivers are in such terrific form.”
In F2, winning is all about set-up, strategy and driving skills. DAMS used all three to perfection with a sound racing plan for the wet conditions, well-timed tyre changes and consistent performances from the cars.
Team owner Charles Pic added: “We knew that we had this potential since the beginning of the season so it’s a brilliant feeling to realise it today. We’ve got a long championship ahead, but to be leading the standings can only be a positive and we’re all very happy with the performance of the whole team.”
Next up for F2 is round 4 in Azerbaijan, at the end of April.
