Expert reveals how garages can profit from health and safety with Philips headlights and workshop lamps

Free lighting checks are a profit generator, distributor says
Headlights provide the illumination that helps the driver both see and be seen when driving on the road.

Lumileds is recommending that workshops offer a free lighting check to motorists before the spring and summer break, to increase not only their business revenue by getting more customers in the door but also to ensure motorists are safe on the road.

When a headlamp bulbs fails, the vehicle can be left without the very important safety and visibility that is provided by the headlights.

Road safety

Richard Armstrong, business development manager at Lumileds said: “Much like wiper blades on a vehicle, headlights should be checked periodically and, when one is starting to fail, the bulbs should replaced in pairs.

“Changing and upgrading a car’s headlight bulbs before they burn out helps ensure optimum performance.

“Road safety starts with seeing and being seen – road safety starts with good quality car lighting.

“The range of Philips bulbs is comprehensive and, as well as a full selection of replacement and upgrade Halogen and HID Xenon replacement bulbs, it also includes LED retrofit lighting options for cars using halogen bulbs.

“Cheap is often not cost-effective when it comes to car lighting.

“The tight confines and complexities of modern car engine bays can often mean that replacing a bulb can take a few hours – not something that a workshop wants to have to rectify at its own cost.

“Fitting a high quality bulb from an OE manufacturer like Lumileds and its Philips bulbs, will not only offer peace of mind to workshop and motorist alike, but it will give the workshop a higher margin on the product and the motorist a better performing bulb that will almost certainly prove to be cheaper to own in the long run.”

Perfect illumination is especially important for distance vision – usually between 75-100 metres in front of a vehicle – and safety, together with comfort, are the key factors when lighting is being developed.

RacingVision

Heading the Philips offer is RacingVision – probably the brightest halogen bulb providing up to +150 per cent compared to the minimum legal standard – which has already proved itself to be the best performing halogen headlamp bulb on the market in the UK’s most widely read and respected vehicle headlight test, conducted by Auto Express.

Philips RacingVision headlights are available in H7 and H4 variants and are on sale from authorised Philips distributors.

In addition to Philips RacingVision, Lumileds also has a number of high style/high performance upgrades.

X-tremeVision

Philips X-tremeVision and Philips X-tremeVision G-force headlight bulbs are made for outstanding performance, producing up to 130 per cent brighter light, without compromising on the lifetime.

With Philips X-tremeVision G-force, the bright white light is significantly whiter than standard headlight bulbs.

Philips patented coating technology produces a more powerful light, offering one of the brightest lighting performances and a highly comfortable night driving experience.

Philips X-tremeVision G-force boosts visibility with up to 130 per cent more brightness, enabling the driver to recognise obstacles and any potential dangers earlier than with most other halogen headlight bulbs.

Philips X-tremeVision G-force is designed to withstand shocks of up to 10 G, giving the bulb extreme durability.

Workshop lamps

In the workshop environment, the current range of Philips professional lighting lamps covers everything from small hand held or head worn lights through penlights and larger handhelds to light strips and multi-light systems.

All Philips professional workshop lights are LED-based, with Lumileds offering the LUXEON LEDchips.

The majority of Philips workshop lights are now rechargeable – although some battery and mains cable-powered models are offered.

Lumileds has recently introduced the Philips pocket inspection lamp RCH5S, the cordless RCH25 work lamp and the portable projector light PJH10, all of which feature a unique dimming function for enhanced comfort while working.
