There's no beating about the bush, as Polybush shines a light on some popular misconceptions

Busting the myths about polyurethane bushes

Polybush goes into full ’MythBusters’ mode by outlining some common misconceptions about polyurethane bushes.

Read on for more information.

Myth 1: Polybushes are just for race/performance cars

A common misconception is that polyurethane bushes are too hard for normal cars, but polyurethane can be manufactured to suit a range of needs, from a gel bicycle seat through to a golf ball.

The stiffest grade of polyurethane will give you precise steering and a controlled drive at all speeds but a more elastic solution will give you greater longevity and shock absorption than its stiffer counterparts. Whatever the car, Polybush can tailor the polyurethane to suit the expectations.

Myth 2: Polybushes are too hard to fit

Many aftermarket bushes follow the O.E design, requiring special tools, but Polybush products can be fitted either by hand, with a vice or even a G-clamp – cutting the installation time over rubber parts.

One garage said: “Previously, I’d reject a rear axle bush replacement job due to the time it took. But when I agreed to help a close friend, someone at my local motor factors suggested Polybush was an easy fit. The ease of fitment and quality of the product means I never turn down those ’hard’ bush jobs again. From now on, I’ll be using those red ones.”

Myth 3: Polyurethane bushes need greasing

Unlike other manufacturers, Polybush products don’t require dirt-attracting grease to fit, just a little tyre soap or washing-up liquid is enough to lubricate but light enough to wash away, keeping the contact surfaces clean and noise free.

Myth 4: Polyurethane bushes are too expensive.

Ambulance

Polyurethane bushings are unaffected by grease, ozone, oil, fuel, and road contaminants, and will often outlive rubber bushes by around four to five times. They are generally regarded as ’fit and forget’ products, making them a true cost-saving option.

Polybush created a solution for the West Midlands Ambulance Service, whose vehicles were suffering from premature bush wear. With bushes unavailable, full anti-roll bars and leaf spring replacements were being carried out on a regular basis.

Once the need for individual parts were illuminated, a cost saving of £700 on parts alone, per vehicle, per inspection, became possible.
