A system failure which meant drivers were unable to use the cashless payment system caused chaos in 130 National Car Parks (NCP) across the UK.
It’s been reported that more than 800 drivers were directly affected and thousands more held up in queues.
One woman told The Times that she had been trapped in a Manchester car park for an hour-and-a-half.
She said: “It was absolutely outrageous.
“We were just left standing there with no one coming to help and nobody willing to even pick up the phone to tell us what was going on.”
An NCP spokeswoman told The Standard the glitch was caused by a ‘third party provider’.
She said: “They worked alongside our technical teams to resolve the equipment issues caused to resume normal service as quickly as possible.
“Our customer contact centre did everything it could to help, and we deployed additional front line teams to as many car parks as possible.
“We apologise profusely for any inconvenience caused to our customers during that timeframe.
“No customer will be charged for any overstay caused by the delay.”
