The Daily Mail have reported that Jaguar’s latest conception, an intelligent steering wheel that may one day become the only part of a car that motorists own.
Named after Malcom Sayer, Jaguar’s late designer responsible for the beautiful C, D and E-Type coupe and roadster, ‘Sayer’ will be the hub of each individual driver’s personal preferences from seat positions to temperature control, audio and sat-nav settings.
The prototype boasts a futuristic design and looks like modern art that would be kept in the home, a Jaguar spokesman said: “It is the first voice-activated artificial intelligence steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks.
“You won’t just use it to steer the car, you will take it with you when you have finished.
“It will store all of your personal settings and you will be able to add more as it sits in your living room.”
Thinking ahead
Unveiled on the 7 September as part of the Jaguar Land Rover tech fest exhibition in London, the steering wheel has been designed to fit inside a Jaguar vehicle which has been code-named ‘FUTURE-TYPE’.
“Imagine a future of autonomous, connected and electric cars where you don’t own a single car, but instead call upon the vehicle of your choice where and when you need it,” continued the spokesperson.
“If you need to be at a meeting two hours away from home by 8am the next day, then you simply ask Sayer from the comfort of your living room and it will work out when you get up, when a car needs to arrive at your door and even advise which parts of the journey you might enjoy driving yourself.”
