The DVSA has announced changes to the MOT inspection manual and testing guide in a special notice released earlier this week.

The MOT inspection manuals for all classes has been updated with new defects and the MOT testing guide is to be updated on 1 September 2021.

In line with the recent easing of restrictions, the DVSA has also officially removed all published COVID-19 guidance.

The latest special notice additionally reveals that an assistant must be used for all front suspension checks – expect on one person test lanes – , regardless of whether a defect is suspected or not.

The requirement to issue a paper VT20 pass certificate will now be optional.

Test stations may continue to issue a paper copy if they wish but there is not a requirement to do so, unless the customer makes a specific request to have one.

A paper VT30 fail certificate must always be issued, including those generated as part of a PRS.

Customers can download and print certificates from the Check MOT history service using the vehicle registration number and the 11-digit V5C reference number.

MOT viewing areas must be reopened by 31 August and MOT noticeboards must be displayed where they can be easily read by anyone submitting vehicles for test.
