Police in Lancashire were shocked this week after stopping a motorist for driving a vehicle with an MOT that had expired more than 12 months ago, only to be told that the man behind the wheel was an MOT tester.

The driver was stopped on the M61 on Saturday (June 6) after an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera spotted the car between Chorley and Rivington Services.

Following a cross-check with the national database it was confirmed that the Astra’s MOT had expired more than 12 months ago on May 28, 2019.

When asked his occupation, the driver admitted to officers that he was in an MOT tester himself.

“You couldn’t make it up,” tweeted Lancashire Road Police.

Not condoning this chaps actions in any way but I have witnessed many police officers private vehicles in a shocking state over the years. How would they feel if that information was made public?
