Gates has published details of the fastest moving thermostats as the winter season begins to bite.
The news will help flag up potential vehicle maintenance issues for garages and could help boost revenue opportunities.
Large numbers of thermostats fail every year and the trade is being advised to prepare for surges in demand on popular models as the temperatures continue to fall.
The Gates thermostats range includes manifold absolute pressure (MAP) thermostats, plus thermostats inside housing units as fitted to many of the latest OE models.
Gates say most thermostat failures are a result of overcooling, which can lead to poor engine performance, increased fuel consumption and higher emission levels.
A Gates spokesperson said: “The causes of thermostat failure are often related to mileage or age, but most drivers only become aware there is a problem if temperatures fall suddenly.
“They realise the cabin heater isn’t working as well.
“Winter servicing offers repairers a chance to focus on preventive maintenance and the inclusion of thermostats in specific Gates timing belt kits – as well being sold as separate units – is one of the ways garages can be proactive and demonstrate to their customers that the care of their vehicles is in good hands.”
