Cheshire West and Chester Council found itself in a hole last week after it tweeted a picture of an inspector measuring the depth of a pothole to determine if it required a repair.
The picture showed ‘inspector Darren’ using a spirit level to measure a large hole while appearing to rest one side half way down the large crater.
The tweet claimed that the pothole was less than 50mm deep, which meant that it did not need to be repaired “at this time”.
Eagle eyed twitter users were quick to point out ‘inspector Darren’s’ mistake.
Twitter user, Dave Dee posted: “If he had a longer spirit level it would measure a lot deeper than 50mm!”
The council responded: “Hi, it might not be clear from the photo but the spirit level is resting on the road surface, this was amongst a chain of shallow defects all less than 50mm.”
However, after an onslaught of tweets keen to point out the mistake, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s original tweet has now been deleted.
The hilarious replies remain.
He’s not even measuring from the road level, his plank isn’t long enough because the pot hole is so big.
