EEC highlights benefits of ProGen-R8 Universal ELOYS replacement

European Exhaust & Catalyst (EEC) has launched ProGen-R8 EOLYS replacement fluid for PSA-derived vehicles.

ProGen-R8 has been designed as a universal fluid that covers all generations of fluids.

An EEC spokesperson said: “Particulate filter additives are mainly used on a PSA derived engine vehicles with DPF fitted, it is also known as Eloys fluid.

“The additive is designed to assist the regeneration process of the DPF.”

The Progen-R8 is a cerium-based solution which lowers the ignition temperature of particulate matter/ soot during the regeneration cycle of the DPF filter, triggered when the ECU detects that the DPF is reaching a fill rate of >55%.

The spokesperson explained: “This can vary depending on the vehicle manufacturer and is detected by the pressure changes between the front and rear pressure sensors.

“DPF regeneration with addition of ProGen-R8 will burn off the PM at 400°C to 500°C whereas vehicles without this additive will need to reach >550°C

“It is important that when the additive low warning light appears on the dash, to ensure that the additive is topped up ASAP.

“If the tank runs out of fluid the DPF will become blocked, and the engine will go into limp mode.”

Low mileage diesel drive cycles and drivers who do numerous short journeys need to activate the regeneration process.

This is because the DPF needs to reach a certain pre-determined temperature before the regeneration process will activate.

Therefore, it is advisable that once every 6 to 8 weeks the vehicle is driven for about 25 minutes at 2500RPM, this can be achieved by driving in a lower gear.

This will then activate the regeneration process.

Ensure there are no fault codes showing and there is more than 20 litres of fuel in the fuel tank, otherwise the DPF will not regenerate.
