NGK ambassador celebrates pole and podium at Watkins Glen

NGK Ambassador Charlie Martin has narrowly missed out on her first race win in the 2022 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championship.

She took an excellent pole position in her qualifying session for the first race at the third round of the championship at Watkins Glen with teammate Jason Keats securing a fifth place starting place for race two.

They led their class in race one from start to finish but were unfortunately hit with a penalty for a pitstop that was 0.4-seconds too fast resulting in them being moved to second place after the chequered flag, their best finish of the season.

In the second race of the meeting, the duo finished where they started as they collected a fifth-place finish in class to round off a strong weekend in New York.

Charlie said: “I’m really pleased with how our weekend at Watkins Glen went.

“Pole position, a podium finish, and fantastic pace all around.

“In race one, we led our class from start to finish, only a penalty for a pitstop that was 0.4-seconds too fast saw us moved to P2 after the chequered flag, but we were both stoked to get our best finish yet in Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

“It was so hot in the car but we both pushed through to get on the podium. P5 in race two was a solid result to end the weekend, now we are fully focused on continuing the form into Road America at the start of August.”

NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd is a long-term sponsor of Charlie.

Mark Hallam, marketing manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “Charlie and Jason were so unfortunate to miss out on gaining a well-deserved race win at this iconic American circuit.

“I am sure they will both be fighting hard to gain top spot when the championship resumes in August.”
