Our Virtual Academy launches new Diagnostic Technician Essentials course

Training provider Our Virtual Academy (OVA) has announced the launch of a new training course designed to give technicians the skills to diagnose electrical issues quickly and accurately.

OVA told Garage Wire it developed the Diagnostic Technician Essentials course in response to customer feedback and the problems technicians had encountered in their workshops.

The four-part series of face-to-face training is led by expert instructors who will guide trainees though hands-on practical tests. Each part of the series is one day of training, which can be booked separately or all at once.

The most common issues experienced in the field are:

  • ’Some of my technicians aren’t confident using multimeters, amp clamps, and test lights.’ – covered in Electrical Testing Essentials and Electrical Diagnostic Techniques (see below).
  • ’My technicians struggle to trace electrical faults using wiring diagrams.’ – covered in Electrical Testing Essentials and Electrical Diagnostic Techniques (see below).
  • ’We have a Picoscope, but I don’t feel we’re getting the most out of it. Some of the techs don’t even know how to use it.’ – covered in Picoscope Essentials (see below).
  • ’We see a lot of problems with LIN and CAN, but my technicians don’t feel confident diagnosing issues with these networks.’ – covered in Vehicle Network Essentials (see below).

Course components

  • Electrical Testing Essentials
    • How to test circuits with confidence
    • Maximising multimeter skills

By completing all four parts, technicians will have the knowledge and skills to test and diagnose various electrical systems in modern vehicles. Key benefits include increased earning potential, staying ahead of the competition and the skills required to future-proof a business.

All courses take place at OVA’s headquarters in Shropshire, with the following dates available:
