Standard defines the requirements for an environmental management system that an organisation must adhere to in order to manage its environmental responsibilities.

Standard Motor Products Europe (SMPE) is working towards its ISO14001:2015 accreditation, reflecting the company’s commitment to tier one customers and improved environmental performance.

The standard defines the requirements for an environmental management system that an organisation must adhere to in order to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to greener sustainability, covering criteria including recycling, lower carbon footprint and waste reduction.

The updated 2015 standard includes the latest requirements relating to the context of the organisation, leadership, strategic environmental management, risk and opportunities, life-cycle perspective, performance evaluation and auditing.

This is a transition from the current ISO9001:2015 QMS certification held by SMPE, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to minimising the impact of its operations upon the environment.

Richard Morley, SMPE commercial director, said: “We take a very serious approach towards the impact of the company’s activities on the environment, and we’re currently focused on working hard towards achieving our high environmental and quality goals.

“We want to ensure our customers can be confident that the organisation not only complies with environmental legislation and best practice but, supported by documented processes and activities, strives to ensure a continual improvement in their performance.”
