Sykes-Pickavant releases new slide hammer

Sykes-Pickavant has released a new slide hammer to help combat the risk of hand-arm vibration.

Painful and disabling disorders of the blood vessels, nerves and joints can be caused by accumulative exposure to shock and vibration over time, according to Sykes-Pickavant.

The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations (2005) focuses on the elimination or control of vibration exposure with the long term aim of preventing new cases of hand-arm vibration occurring and enabling workers to remain at work without disability.

In a bid to combat the effects of hand-held power tools on the operator, Sykes-Pickavant has launched a new ‘safety first tool’ which can be used safely for longer periods of time whilst minimising the risk of hand-arm vibration.

The new GO530 9KG non-impact slide hammer utilises innovative anti-rebound ball bearing technology which transfers impact force to the part being worked on rather than to the operator upon the slide hammer’s return.

Impact gloves are not required when using this tool, affording the user increased handle control.

A Sykes-Pickavant spokesperson said: “The non-impact slide hammer is noticeably easier to use than models that do not feature the same technology, providing the operator with crucial safety and comfort.

“The multi-position handles also offer a choice of operating positions to suit various applications.

“By law, employers must assess and identify measures to eliminate or reduce risks of HAVS to protect their employees from the condition.

“The GO530 offers peace of mind for garages and workshops, providing a safe and effective solution for repairing bodywork and removing locked mounted parts with maximum force and minimal risk.”
