Textar-sponsored Newell remains in title hunt as championship final arrives

Textar-sponsored John Newell remains in championship contention as the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) nears its season finale at Brands Hatch.

Newell is currently fourth in the standings on 310 points heading into the final five races of the year, six points behind third placed Stuart Oliver, and eight behind David Jenkins in second, with championship leader Ryan Jenkins a further 58 points ahead.

With 80 points available from a race weekend, a maiden title for Newell is a long shot but it remains mathematically possible heading to Brands Hatch on Saturday 5th November, where the BTRC takes place against the backdrop of a Bonfire Night celebration.

John Newell, ambassador for Textar and racing driver at Newell and Wright Motorsport said: “A title is a very long shot and would probably require a motor racing miracle, but we can sensibly and realistically target second place in the championship.

“Our aim for Brands Hatch is to simply enjoy it and try and get second place, and we’ll be flat out from the start, gunning for a good qualifying position to set ourselves up well for races one and two.”

John Newell shot back into contention with a scintillating drive at the last round at Pembrey, where he took two wins and two second places to put himself back into the top four of the championship.

Brands Hatch is a happy hunting ground for Newell, but gives drivers a challenge with its short layout offering few overtaking opportunities.

“I have lots of happy memories from Brands Hatch and love the circuit.

“It’s got a great atmosphere and combined with the special fireworks display and show trucks event it’s set to be a great weekend,” Newell said.

High performance brakes are crucial around the short 1.2-mile layout offering limited opportunities for moves, apart from the heavy braking zones at Druids hairpin and into Graham Hill Bend.

Textar will again welcome its customers to Brands Hatch for the truck racing season finale, where they can visit the Newell and Wright Motorsport paddock area and get up close to John Newell’s racing truck and use Textar’s hospitality suite to spectate the thrilling on-track action.

By fitting Textar braking products, the Newell & Wright Motorsport race truck has the perfect combination of superior braking performance, long service life and low disc wear.

Fleet operators can find Textar’s latest brake equipment range via Brakebook, TMD Friction’s online catalogue.

This virtual platform allows users to search for multiple part numbers, create their own personalised catalogue and offers weekly updates.
