NTN-SNR offers its expertise for technicians removing and fitting new wheel bearings

Precautions to take when fitting wheel bearings
NTN-SNR experts have developed fitting recommendations for wheel bearings.

Start by preparing the necessary materials and tools before starting installation, ensuring they are clean and in good condition.

Check kit part number and remove the bearing from its packaging at the last minute onto a clean work surface.

Clean the parts and components surrounding the bearing and ensure that these are in good condition.

Check that there are no scratches or marks on the hub, stub axle, transmission shaft or brake drum and replace any damaged parts.

Avoid removing or separating the components of a bearing, NTN-SNR warns that a disassembled bearing should under no circumstances be mounted.

Use the fitting paste, and an SNR fitting/removal kits to ensure the correct positioning of the bearing.

Always apply the assembly force to the ring being fitted, force should never be transmitted through rolling elements (balls or rollers) and technicians should not push on both rings simultaneously.

With ASB® bearings (magnetic encoder) the location of the bearing in the assembly is specific.

Bearings fitted with two different types of seals are also location specific and the bearing must be fitted in the correct direction.

Apply the torque values recommended by the manufacturer.
