She’s known as “the only girl in the shop”, and now her hugely popular TikTok account has landed Sydney Sweeney a gig creating car mechanic tutorial videos for Ford.

The actor, who is best known for her roles in The White Lotus, Euphoria, Everything Sucks! and The Handmaid’s Tale, created the @Syds_Garage channel in 2021. Since then, she has gained 1.6m followers and amassed 6.5m likes as fans tune in to watch her restore a 1969 Ford Bronco.

She hopes that her partnership with Ford, which also sees the launch of a new range of workshop clothing, will encourage more women to feel comfortable working on their vehicles.

“This campaign is very genuine to me,” Sydney Sweeney said. “Through my Auto 101 series and the female-forward workwear collection, I hope to empower and uplift women to pursue their passions, to get involved in the world of cars, and show that anyone can follow their dreams, no matter what they are!”

In a promotional video, she says: ”I come from a family of mechanics and I learned how to drive in my grandfather’s F-100.”

“A vintage Ford Bronco was my dream, dream car. I wanted that car so bad. I was the only girl in the shop.

”I changed the transmission, added power steering, new brakes, updated the radio, the suspension, redesigned the interior and added a roll bar, but that is just the beginning.

”At first I made videos to show just my family the process, but it turned out that a bunch of other people have seen them too.”

As well as the launch of a ‘totally reimagined take on workwear’, Sweeney’s collaboration with Ford will see her produce a series of Auto 101 video tutorials. Each one will teach viewers the basics of car maintenance.

Her 34-second video on how to check your oil has been viewed 6.5m times.

Speaking about her work with Ford, the 25-year-old actor said: ”This campaign is very genuine to me. Through my Auto 101 series and the female-forward workwear collection, I hope to empower and uplift women to pursue their passions, to get involved in the world of cars, and show that anyone can follow their dreams, no matter what they are.”
